Please Help my 6 yr old son. Scary Behavior.

by 7isenough, May 07, 2002 12:00AM
My 6 yr old Tommie is in Kindergarten. In the first semester he did not speak. Now he is talking a bit, but no socializing. He hates everything. His Teacher, Himself, His brothers, etc. He hits himself in the forhead when he is mad. He is going through an evaluation through the school for Special-ed. They are aware of his behavior and have some complaints of there own. We will be seeing a counselor this Thursday. We had adopted two puppies and my son is very gentle and protected of his pups. I had taken the pups away so they can sleep and he threatened to kill himself. A 6 yr old! I don't know where he got this from. I don't recall hearing this on Cartoon Network or his siblings. He repeadily tells me he hates himself and I'm trying to do some alone time with him. I ask him what's troubling him and he just says"I don't know". I had Temporal Lobe Epilepsy when I was a kid. I acted out. Could this be something that I passed onto my son? Any info would be helpful.

Certainly the chances of your son experiencing a neurological problem is something to be considered, in light of the family history. But his symptoms are not typical of epilepsy alone. You are doing the wise thing by proceeding with the evaluation

7is,
I am going thru something similar with my 6 year old son. He has been doing the temper tantrums, said he is unhappy with his life
(which this, as you know, is very scary for many reasons). I sincerely hope you can figure it out with yours. Know that I will include yall in my prayers for my son and family. It is very sad that a 6 yr old can have these types of thoughts. We do not know what to do at this point, mainly with his anger, as he hits his head against the wall, knocks his head with his fist, throws things, and knocks this over. Besides the damage to himself (which is our formost concerns), but we are not "rich" people and the damage he can make can become costly (and I stress, his health, mentally and physically, is the most important thing to us). Good luck to you.
God Bless,
Ricky
