We decided to pull out the "big guns" to get my daughter to potty train. We gave M&M's everytime she went. If she went poo poo, she got two M&M's. Once she was trained, she eventually stopped asking for the M&M's.
Maybe he needs to be around the other children watching them going to the restroom and get embarrassed for not going himself. But, looking at the brightBright beginnings side, even if you kept him from this or he still didnt catch on, all children eventually learn to go the restroom sooner or later.
As far as school is concerned. . . As a teacher, I wouldn't be too worried about his teacher's response. If you work hard this summer getting him ready, that's all you can do. Most teachers will be understanding if you explain the situation. Send a change of clothes in his backpack with a plastic bag for dirty clothes. The nurse will help clean him up if he has an accident. Children develop at different levels, so I wouldn't be too worried. Have you taken him to the doctor? There could be a condition keeping him from being able to go like he needs to.
Good luck and God Bless.
