Potty Training

Potty Training

Please help me!  I have a 4 yr old son who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD.  He is also developmentally delayed.  The problem I am having is he is constantly using the bathroom on himself.  He does not tell me when he has to go he just goes in his pull-ups and undies.  My son seems as though he cannot comprehend that he should be able to use the toilet without being told.  I really need some help!  He is big for his age and I am tired of buying pull-ups. What can I do?

Kids with ADHD have a hard time not only concentrating but being organized in their every day They really need a set schedule that they know they can rely on. To start off with, I'd say you will have to lead him to the potty at regular intervals at times that you know he will need to go. I'd start off with every 30 minutes, lead him to the potty, especially after he's eaten or drank something. Praise him when he goes in the potty. Make a big deal out of it. Since he's still so young, you're really going to have to learn when he normally goes and try and catch him. It will take some work and you may have to stay home for a few weeks while you are working on this.
You can also try a reward chart. Kids love those things for some reasons and stickers. I hope this helps!
