Potty training age 6

my son is 6yrs old. he stopped peeing himself day and night by age 3, but he still poops on himself almost regularly. He has good days but most days aren't. When we ask if his butt is clean he always says yes. Even when he knows it isn't. I'm at my wits end. He has ADHD as well. Could this be part of the problem? What can I do to get him to understand that he needs to do it all the time?

To be frank, there's no point in asking a six-year-old if he is clean. Make sure he is. His ADHD can have an indirect influence on this, but difficulty with toileting is not typical of children who display ADHD. If he is well medically, a strict behavioral program is the recommended intervention. Whatever his favored 'privilege' is should be contingent on using the toilet.
