Hello My name is Tiffany. I think I may have thyroid. So does my mom. My mom, like two of my aunts, and my grandma have it. My mother is taking me to that doctore to check it out. But if I have it I would like to know alot about it. If i do have it I dont know which one. My symtoms are: I spas out, hypervenalate, I eat and eat but I dont gain, I cant sleep... ect.....
PLEASE HELP. I want to know about thyroid but I cant understand this stuff.

Tiffany,
Think of your thyroid gland (which is located in your neck) and the producer of fuel that keeps your body going.  Your thyroid sounds like it is very overactive; therefore, it is making your heart beat faster than it should, it is making your body burn calories at a higher rate.  Do you get the picture here?  Over the long term, if this is not fixed, it can cause "wear and tear" on your body.  Much like a car that is driven to fast all the time.  Things will wear out faster.  So the doctors will have to slow your thyroid down.  Sometimes that is done with medication, although, I don't think that is very effective.  Often the doctors will try to destroy your thyroid gland with a radioactive substance taken in a pill or liquid form.  This causes your thyroid gland to become damaged so that it slows down or stops working.  Then they will give you some thyroid medication to take that will make your body run like it should.
