Rickets and Development

My friend's daughter has rickets. She developed normally until she became 8 months. Now, she is 6 years old, can't walk properly, and doesn't talk properly. Does her case have anything to do with her thyroid gland?

Thanks!

Dear MT,

It's not possible to talk about your friend's daughter's particulars. But, calcium deficiency can result from problems with the parathyroid glands (located on the back and side of each thyroid lobe). These glands secrete a hormone that controls the level of calcium in the blood.
