My addvice would be to move or try having the house "cleansed".

Before I start guessing at ghost or monster activity, I have to take a stab at wondering if he's seen any scary movies/images.  At this age, children are absorbing so much they come in contact with and if he witnessed any type of scary or frightening images on T.V., or at a theater, or Halloween it could has left a lasting impression on his mind.

I watched 10 mins of "Child's Play" when I was 6 yrs of age.  To this day, Im still afraid of dolls/mannequins.  It's 20 yrs. later!  I swore that the dolls came to life at night, eyes growing and glowing.  Sharper teeth...I remember I would enjoy them and play with them at other girl's houses by day but I was glad they weren't coming home with me.  I don't know what Im going to do when my daughter ( 6mos now) wants them in a couple of years.

It's not unusual for him to have learned of "monsters" at his age, but him exhibiting real fear of them and saying he sees them getting after him is more likely the cause of him having witnessed what they usually do on T.V.

P.S. watch out for cartoon network and various other shows (scooby doo).  Those seemingly innocent shows used to scare my son causing nightmares.  I had to delete it from his viewing list

he doesn't watch tv alot.if he does he watches dora or spongebob.i have other kids in the home so i don't allow alot of tv,so we don't have the problem with them staying in front of it.i wish that was the problem, then i could have something to blame!!!

i too think does he watch lots of cartoons and movies? if he watches ANYTHING on t.v at all, make sure not only youre careful what he watches, but do not allow him to watch t.v one hour before bedtime. relax him before you put him to bed. make a bedtime book reading a  more quiet and relaxing time. milk before bed is good cause its calming. one thing i thought of that i like is put some water in a spray bottle and name is "ghost be gone spray" and allow him to spray in his room where he thinks the ghosts are and he'll feel better. my daughter had night terrors just like your son and shes now three also. its gotten better, but it started when she was one.  make sure he has a nighlight. my doctor said that when they are that little like one years old, they could have nightmares about a milk bottle even. so somtiems, its uncontrollable. but all you can do is calm them when it happens. just make sure hes not doing it so he wont sleep.

do NOT allow him to watch spongebob. thats an angry cartoon with lots of creepy looking characters. for children that young, nothing educational or nice comes from it. i cant even find one nice sentence said in there. i let my daughter watch it for a month and she started acting angry just like the characters. they are always mad and angry and stressed. your sons nightmares could very well be spongebob
