So, if the conditions that you mention do not apply and the sensory issues have mininal or little impact on a child would an Occ therapist do anything. Do you think there is any significance in the fact that my son had developed the ability to tune out sounds and then the minor fear and curiosity only developed within the last year, ie could it be just normal childhood fear

Yes, this can be indicative of normal fear or reticence. The bottom line, so to speak, is the matter of the presence, and degree, of any impediment that the symptoms present. If there is really no significant impediment to the achievement of typical developmental challenges, there is no need for specialized intervention. This applies to OT as well as to any other type of intervention (e.g., therapy).
