Screaming at Bedtime

by E's Mommy, Feb 12, 2003 12:00AM
Our 13 month old son has suddenly started screaming when I try to lay him in his crib at bedtime. He is OK at naps. I have tried to look at every possibility. There have been no major (or minor) changes in family, childcare or such that could have him upset. He has not been exposed to new foods. No tramatic events have taken place. I thought it may be a temper tantram because if I don't immediately pick him up he stomps or jumps around. He even tries to get away from me if he senses that I may try to lay him back down. He has a blankie and stuffed bunny that he has always cuddled with at night. He also listens to a lullaby CD and has a night light. What could be wrong with him? What can I try to do?

Be sure to have him checked for a possible ear infection, and if all checks out OK on the medical front, simply continue with your regimen. Do not allow his response to alter your routine, and in particular do not refrain from putting him in his crib at the usual times.

Your advice has been a godsend! We visited the doctor and he did have fluid in his right ear. After two days of antibiotics (and eight more to go) we are back to normal sleeping. I would have never guessed to have his ears checked!

Good. I'm pleased he's doing better.
