Self-Biting Child

My 17 month old son recently started biting his own arm/wrist (hard!) when he is angry or frustrated. He hasn't bitten anyone else yet, but will be starting daycare in a few weeks. We have followed advice based on what to do when a child bites someone else, but I can't find anything on how to stop a kid from biting himself. Our doctor recommended a offering toys he can bite instead, and reading him books on why biting is bad. Any advice or book suggestions?

my daughter called me in tears because her son joshua bites himself when put into time out.  this is self abuse and obviously aggressive behavior based on frustration.  what can she do?  what can I do?

My son is almost 2 and does the same thing my doctor said some kids go through that stage and to just ignore him when he does he also bites his brother who is 4 I have started ignoring it and just walking off and letting him get it out of his system and his brother when he bites him now tells him no thats not nice and will push him away the behavior has decreased extremely

My little grl just turn 2! I have noticed in the past month that she is biting herself! I understand that they may get upset and have no other way to express themselves,but i have even seen her do this when nothing is wrong. I try not to get mad with her but sometimes it just upsets me and if im with my mom or someone they have to tell her not do that, that she is hurting herself. But here is the thing I really need to find a fix for this problem, me and her father are not together and the first time she goes over there and has a bite mark on her, fingers are going to be pointed at me! I just dont under stand why she does it, even though they get upset you no that it has to hurt them as hard as i have seen her do it.
