Son is having problems at kindergarten

My son will be 6 soon and is having some behavioral issues at school.   He has been in day care his whole life so this should not be a huge adjustment for him but everyday I get a note from his teacher saying what a bad day he had - that he hit someone, made weird noises, shook his head almost out of control, had a hard time laying down for nap and doesn't pay attention.  He is very bright in math but is really struggling with letters which may be a result of bad eyesight that has just been diagnosed.  He has a hard time following directions and paying attention.  He is very imaginative and gets along well with the other kids.  I haven't seen the weird physical actions or the odd noises at home and am shoked when she tells me this happens almost everyday.  Do you think this is just his way of adjusting to a new school or should we explore other issues?

Could it be that he just seeking for attention and doing those things made him think that it is one way for him to be recognized?^_^

I don't think he would do it for attention.  He is a little shy and usually doesn't like when others look at him.  His teacher has 25 years of experience and hasn't mentioned that as a possible cause.  I do respect his teacher and at a conference I got to see how she interacts with my son and they seem to really hit it off which is why I don't think he would misbehave if that would upset her.  He is a very sweet child and sometimes seems overwhelmed by the "real" world.
