Son with possible Fifths Disease?

by blessedmommy, Jun 08, 2001 12:00AM
I have a 7 year old son who is experiencing redness on his face that fades and comes back.  This has been going on for a week.  He has no other symptoms.  He also may have the same rash on his calves.  I am worried because I am 12 weeks pregnant today and do not know if my unborn baby is in danger.  My OB is on vacation and since I don't know if my son has fifths disease I don't know if I should seek medical help for myself for my baby?
What kind of harm can be done to my unborn baby? And does this rash sound like fifths disease to you?

I cannot comment directly on your son's condition, but the best strategy is to be cautious. Contact your son's pediatrician and have him examined.
