Speech Delay 4 year old

by Suddsmom, Jul 01, 2009 12:02PM
My husband and I adopted our daugher at 17 months old from Russia.   As expected she is developmentally delayed but has made tremendous progress since coming home 2 1/2 years ago.  She attends Pre-School and although is behind in OT, teachers say she is doing great and progressing well.  She has trouble paying attention to one subject over 10 minutes while in class.  She is very active and smiles and laughs alot, which she did not do the 1st few months she was home.  She has speech therapy twice a week with a therapist we feel is wonderful.  She is saying mama, dada, bug, baby, levi (dog), and adding more small words weekly.  We have not had her hearing checked, but she always answers us and hears everything around her so we have not had any concerns with hearing.  Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I really do not have any additional guidance for you. You are doing the correct things by way of getting her help with OT and Speech/Language. The next year will tell a lot about how much she's closing the developmental gap.
