Speech Delay

My son is 6yrs old. He has speech delay (5 word sentences with poor sentence construction). He interacts well with kids his age group but gets bullied sometimes as he does not interact using high level speech. He initiates play  every time he is at the park. He says "come on lets play "Jonothan" with very good eye contact.  Plays hide and seek, monsters, chase, wrestles.  He likes doing a wide range of activities but is not good at them but still wants to try. He is a quiet child can be easily overlooked.

As a 3 year old he was withdrawn and did not respond to his name until shouted at. Very much in his on world but has changes ALOT now at 6 but still slow at speech. He never had temper tantrums or issues about routine. He loved doing something different everyday.

Does he have something more than speech delay. Is there such a thing as just speech delay and nothing else????

Sure, often a child displays delayed Speech/Language with no additional problems. Now, what sometimes occurs (and it appears this might be happening with your son) is that the speech and language limitations have an influence on social functioning.
