Stool Color

by Deana, Sep 07, 1999 12:00AM
My 15 monthold daughter has a loose pea green stool.  Is this normal for my child or could something else be wrong?

Dear Deana-
Thank you for your question about your daughter.
With regard to her loose pea green stool - most probably, this is acceptable/normal for your child.  But just to be on the safe side - I would recommend that you speak to your child's doctor - even bring him/her a sample diaper to evaluate.  Most often - as long as your child is comfortable and is growing normally - a loose stool is not a concern.  Also - as long as there is no blood (either visible or microscopic) and there is some color in the stool (either green or brown) - again, this is probably normal.  You might want to look at your daughter's diet - and see if she has an abundance of vegetable matter in her diet which might be the source of the color. But again - if she is well, the concern level is probably low.
    Hope this helps.   Dr. EV.
