Tics? Or should I be concerned?

Tics? Or should I be concerned?

Hello! My daughter is 8 1/2, soon to be 9 years old.  She is bright, intelligent, has always been on time with speech and has no developmental delays.  This said, I have noticed several times recently she involuntarily will flip one wrist around and move her mouth.  At first sight I will say I was taken back, at second sight I asked her and she didn't even realize she had done it which scared me. The minute I point it out it stops which leads me to think it isn't a focal seizure or anything of that nature.  I as a child was hyper active and had ADD I am wondering if this tics are a sign of something more serious and if I should take her to see a neurologist ?  I have noticed it a few times over the past 2 weeks or so, I never really noticed before that...but there seems to be no pain, no abnormalities in her diet, or school habits.  Can you please give me some advice, I am worried this came out of no where.  Thank you so much!

Yes, it would be wise to have her evalauted by a pediatric neurologist. Most childhood tics are transient and benign, appearing and disappearing spontaneously. But these multiple motor tics do invite evaluation. Depending on the requirements of your insurance you may have to get a referral from her pediatrician.
