Tilted Head

Tilted Head

What does it mean when a three year old has his head tilted to one side all of the time, He watches the television this way, talks and even listens in this manner. He was asked if his ear or anything hurt him and it took a few minutes for him to respond but he stated that no it did hurt. He has been doing this since he was born according to his mother.

This is something that a doctor should definitely diagnose.  One thing that may be causing it is a condition called torticollis.  This is when the head is tilted to one side.  It is caused by either genetics or by damage to the nervous system/muscles.  If a child is born with it, it is probably because of their improper positioning in the womb.  It can be corrected, but they need to strengthen the neck muscles.  There are exercises for this.  But again, this should definitely be diagnosed by a doctor because they need to make sure that there is nothing else wrong with him.

Screening for hearing loss is now recommended for all newborns. In children, hearing problems may cause speech to develop slowly.
Ear infections are the most common cause of temporary hearing loss in children. Fluid may stay in the ear following an ear infection. The fluid can go unnoticed, or it can cause significant hearing problems in children.
Has the child ever had a Audiometry (hearing test)? This could help a great deal in finding out to what extent is the hearing loss if any at all.
Hope that's helpful good luck ;))

I would definitely get this checked out by a doctor. It sounds pretty serious. I'm surprised that no one has noticed until now. This could also be just out of habit. But it sounds much more serious than that. A pediatrician should be able to help. Good luck.
