Toddler not speaking but screaming

My two year old son is not speaking. He sometimes attempts to garble but nothing solid comes out. He has said about five words so far but after saying them a couple of times he stops saying them ever again. If you ask him what he wants he just shreiks at you. He understands some of what i say like asking him to go to bed and if he wants to play with his thomas toys but im worried that he wont ever speak. I have not been able to potty train him at all yet.

He's only two, so you needn't worry about the potty training. The language issue is another matter. Now, many two-year-olds show only slow progress toward language, but his status invites concern. You should arrange an evaluation by a Speech/Language clincian and also, if you are in the United States, request Early Intervention (EI) assisatnce.
