Toilet Training

by iamsympatico, Sep 07, 2008 02:01PM
Dr Kennedy, I thank you for your responce to the family that was traing their 4 year old and you felt that the child did not want to grow up yet. I feel this is a big part of our problem except our child is 5 1/2 and in grade one. I had him in short programs last year due to his toileting issue but he is in a full day this year. His first week was okay except Friday when he started throwing up and I had to rush to school to pick him up. His problem being that he will not go to the washroom all day, he will hold it for as long as he can. We make it a point to continue to go throught 'how to go to the washroom', hoping for the day to come when he will actually go as we go through the process or know how to go on his own if he chooses. Originally he was afraid of the toilet but I don't feel that is the issue now. He willingly keeps to the schedule but is not ready to go in the toilet. I know he does not want to pee in the toilet and have know idea why. We have tried to discuss this with him, but he is a pretty tight box. I have had no professional success so far and just hoping that by continuing to chip away time will change his mind. Hopefully?!/!? There was a time where I could not get him in the washroom let alone the toilet, so I keep hanging on to that. To all the parents that experience the same challenge my heart goes out to you as it is so fustrating and emotionally exhausting. Any additional ideas are greatly appreciated.
