Toilet Trouble

by malique, Oct 25, 2008 01:26AM
My son is 4 years old and refuses to use the toilet for bowl movements.  He still insists on using a nappy.  He has no trouble using the toilet to urinate, and is always dry in the morning.  In the last year, he has used the toilet 3 times for bowl movements, but has since refused and will withhold for many days.

On a daily basis, if allowed to use a nappy, his bowl movements are normal and trouble free.  He is aware that all of his friends and classmates use the toilet, and he promises to try tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.

What can we do?

To: how i solved the problem
I have a 5 year old boy who has been weeing in the toliet for well over a year now with no problems there but the problem he had was that he refused to poo in the toliet and would hold it in all day until he had a nappy on at night.when at school he would hold it in and sometimes leave marks in his pants...well i tried everything possible, i have read other peoples posts and they sound like i have wrote the post, identical to my problem.well here is my solution it worked for me hope it works for you.first of all i told him that no more nappies of a night,he wasnt going to wear them anymore as he is a big boy now.i then bought my son a toy,a cheap gameboy advance, and told him when he sits on the toliet he can play the gameboy.well because he wanted the gameboy he was willing to sit on the toliet, something he hasnt done for over a year! when he was on the toliet i gave him the gameboy and said try and have a poo while you are playing the game.to my surprise within 5 mins he had pooed in the toliet, what a celebration,it was great.i went well over the top and told him what a big boy he is etc and also got him to pick a sticker for his chart.when he got off the toliet i took the gameboy away from him and told him next time you need a poo and sit on the toilet you can play the gameboy again and this is your toliet game!!! he moaned at first and kept asking for the game and i said no only when you need the toliet.so far so good this had worked and now my son poos in the toliet.hope this has been of some help.please let me know.
