Too Social?

Too Social?

My 4 yr. old won't leave people alone adults and children alike. He always wants to talk or play with them 24/7 no brakes. I am a single parent but feel as though that I give him as much attention as I can. I play with him I help him with his homework and speech I bath him I read to him I do it all, but when he is around other people he will not leave them alone. I also asked a question under the bipolar page for toddlers. He seems to be extremely moody with me he lies he throughs fits he does it all like a bipolar person.

Why does a 4 year old have homework?

And speech?  Is he in speech therapy?

Yes he is in speech therapy the therapist gives us homework. He is in PreK and also gets homework from that teacher.

So he is delayed in speech?  And maybe academically,  since he is in pre-K and has homework?

I wouldn't suspect bipolar for him,  right now.  Some children just talk your ears off,  and maybe he's one of them,  and that's not all that bad.  If he's around children his age,  and "will not leave them alone" - that's pretty normal for very social children,  isn't it?

Joash - do you have a specific reason to suspect hs is bipolar?  Because to me,  he sounds like he's within average behavior.  Was his father bipolar,  is that why you are concerned?

Best wishes.

Well first of all he flips out about everything and nothing at all at the same time. Yes his father is and my sister is. He is suppose to be in PreK I didn't have to send him. All the kids in PreK have homework. He will make a scene any where we go. I am still hoping he is just going thru a long stage. Last year this time he was no where this bad. Thanks

Joash,  if his father and his maternal aunt are both bi-polar,  and he's exhibiting symptoms that are a concern at the age of four,   it seems very likely he is bipolar  too.    The good thing here,  is you probably know how to deal with it,  with a sister and a boyfriend who both were bipolar,  you probably have inside knowledge of the therapies and an understanding of the personal struggles he'll face.

Best wishes.

Well thanks but I don't know I couldn't stand them. I got rid of his dad cuz he was abusive too. My sister well she has problems too so I just stay away as much as possible.  But thanks and I wish I did.  The main problem with him is everytime I try to talk to him and see whats wrong he ignores me and just walks away.
