He is seeing a child psychiatrist thats who prescribed the risperdal, and no he has not had a behavioral intervention.
we are in australia, there is mental issues on his fathers side, his father (we are no longer together) has Aspergers which was only diagnosed this year, I was woarried that is what my son has but I was told by health professionals that he is ti social and affectionate to have aspergers, but I tend to disagree with that yes he is very social and gives hugs, kisses and he also plays with his toys he doesn't line them up, but he does do other things that an aspergers/autism person does.
Yeah seems a little young to be on Risperidal.....Please get a second opinion
Is he getting any behavioral intervention?
I am at my wits end not knowing what to do. -- your words
You need to see your doctor again. I wonder about the Risperdal - I believe it is not approved for children under 10 in the U.S. (unless, you are living in another country, then it could be approved there, but I doubt it). ODD is a very serious diagnosis and could be a preceder to bi-polar or other mood/personality disorders (is there a history of severe mental health issues on either side of the family?). I think I would ask my doctor for a referral to a mental health medical specialist (as a child psychiatrist or child neurologist) to try and get a grip on this issue. Medication without intervention and/or therapy usually does not work for severe mental health issues. I do believe that if children are treated properly and early, many future mental health issues can be eliminated or at least lessened. I wish you the best ....
One application is for short treatment of schizophrenia in adolescents aged from 13 to 17 and the other is for short term treatment of manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in children aged between 10 and 17.
