Vomiting

by Nikki - Indianapolis, Jan 12, 2000 12:00AM
My 4 year old daughter went through a spell for about 3 months where she would be playing then all of the sudden say she had a headache and within 5 - 20 minutes, vomit, then be just fine;  except on one occassion where she couldn't stop vomiting and we took her to the emergency room.  3 of the times she had just eaten a childs meal from a fast food restaurant (which I won't name) and wondered if the "grease" they use could be causing some type of "allergic" reaction?

My pediatrician is aware of these incidents and has told me to document any more - since I have not gone back to that restaurant and have had no incidents I have nothing further to report.  However, after reading one of the answers posted by, HVMA Ph.D. - KDK, I was wondering if you could tell me a little more about Chronic Vomiting Syndrome because the symptoms you have listed;  nausea, dizziness, and fatigue all ring true to my daughter's 4 occassions.  Thank you in advance for your time!

Dear Nikki,

While I know a bit about CVS, I am a child behavioral health clinician and don't pretend to be an expert on CVS. Pediatric gastroenterologists are the specialists in this area. If you will do a web search, you will find some helpful information on CVS.

My daughter had a bout with Chronic Vomiting Syndrome about a year and a half ago (it went on for about five months).  The doctor diagnosed it right away, and he put her on amitriptyline.  She had no problems with CVS while on the medication.  Three months later we were able to discontinue the medication and she has had no problems since.

Best wishes with your daughter's treatment.  I hope your experience ends as ours did.
