My son is 3 1/2 and has been potty trained for over a year. He was very easy to potty train with very few accidents. For about the past month he has been wetting his pants. He does it and doesnt tell anyone. When i ask him to go pee he freaks out saying he doesnt have to. But he hasnt been going on his alone latley. It started out everyonce and a while but now its up to 5 times a day. I tryed saying it was ok just try to get to the bathroom. But now i dont know what to do he does it all the time! Ive tryed punishing him, telling him he cant go outside if he isnt going to stop playing and go pee. Nothing seems to be working and when ii try to talk with him about it he just says ok and continues to pee his pants. Can someone please help me!!
Does he usually seem hard to interrupt when he's playing? It is often difficult to get him to stop whatever he's doing for other reasons too?
I know several boys who about that age just decided it wasn't really worth getting up and going to the toilet to pee - they just thought it was kind of okay to pee their pants, and take care of it later, and keep playing whatever they were doing. Does this sound like him? If so, he'll outgrow it.
Try setting a schedule for him - for example, after lunch, before bed, after snack. When he goes to the bathroom and pees in the toilet like he knows to do, give him something he likes to reward him for "being a big boy and going in the bathroom." I wouldn't punish him if he pees himself, just try to focus on when he goes correctly and make it a big deal!!!!! Lots of positive attention!!!!
