Why does my child tell everyone I mentally abuse her?

My 13-year-old believes I mentally abuse her and has told her friends and one friend's mom.  My child has been seeing a therapist for quite a while now.  I'm a single mother and have done so much for my child...she's been "overindulged" by me unfortunately.  I just recently had a visit from CPS because someone (I believe my daughter's mother) complained believing that my child was really being mentally abused.  I never so much as put a hand on my child ever..never spanked.  I always thought our relationship was pretty close.  

I cannot figure out what could have triggered my child to seriously believe this.  She constantly tells me she hates me and sometimes has even wished me dead.

I cannot tell you why this is occurring, but suden changes and unpredicatble behavior from young teens is not unusual. When you and she are both calm try to discuss this with her and see if you can discern what has her upset. It might also be useful to touch bases with the therapist to see if he/she has any insights about what is occurring. When you mentioned your 'daughter's mother' I was confused. Aren't you her mother?
