My son is 22 months old and I am a bit worried about him having ASD.
He doesn't speak much yet. So far he can only say Hiya, whatsthat and ta on a regular basis (and in the right context) but also says mama and fish occasionally.
He also has a lack of understanding with lots of things. He can understand some such as blow kisses, give kisses, twirl, wave, clap and open and shuts his mouth when asked what fish do. He also knows where mummy's nose is but not where his own is. That said, if I asked him to pass me his cup, he doesn't have a clue. He babbles all the time and uses a sing song voice when playing.
He is very sociable and loves being with people. He even likes playing with other children. He is very gentle with babies, he seems to know that they are more fragile than other children. He likes a cuddle especially when he is tired or hurt and doesn't pull away but he is often far too busy to be cuddling.
He seems to know when he is being naughty but does it anyway.
He bangs his head on the side of his cot and has done since he was quite young, nowhere else though. When I go in to stop him from doing this, he generally flings himself forward and giggles as if he knows he is doing the wrong thing. He also has a thing about hair. He ***** his thumb while playing with his own hair, someone elses hair or his sisters dolls hair.
He does like to line up his toys but only does this occasionally. He also throws things a lot, food, toys etc.
He has hyperlaxity so he didn't walk until he was 18 months and even now walks in a wobbly manner although in the past month he has stopped falling over a lot. I always wonder whether he was concentrating so much on learning to walk that the language has fallen behind.
He has had an appointment with a paediatrician and a speech therapist at 18 months but at the time, they didn't do anything but has a follow up appointment with both in the new year.
Thanks
