adderal 10mg xr

My son will be starting the addreal 10mg xr, he was on the 5mg, for the last 4 years. He is 11 and I am worried about tics, he used to clear his throat constantly on the lower dosage, he has been off the adderal since january, and since his school work (5th grade) started to slide we chose to put him back on when the doctor suggested he go on the higher dosage. Is it really that safe. I haven't filled the subscription yet. My son is just over 60lbs, is 10mg too much?
