autism/ peripheral neuropathy

My son has been diagnosed with PDD but I don't believe hes autistic. He does flap his hands and walk on his toes. I was wondering if its possible for those characteristics to be peripherral neuropathy?

It's important to be careful not to read too much into one or two particular symptoms, because symptoms themselves can be indicative of a number of conditions. I can't comment on the likelihood of peripheral neuropathy as an explanation for your son's behaviors - it is not within my area of expertise. Be sure to consult with a pediatric neurologist. If your son displays some condition on the PDD spectrum, he would qualify for a diagnosis of autistic disorder after consideration of a range of symptoms in several clusters. The behaviors you mentioned, in and of themselves, would not qualify him for a diagnosis of autistic disorder.
