my five year grandson still eats strange things like cooking oil soap  and anything he finds evn shampoo, if he does not eat he smears on every surface, despite stopping him he still does it when he gets a chance,why? i need advice please

sounds like pica and/or a sensory disorder- possibly hyposensitivity to touch. while both conditions are actually common in young children, i feel that by 5, children either outgrow the desires or learn to control them. the fact that he still acts on these impulses regularly concerns me. i would speak to his pediatrician about it.
