I HAVE A 10 YEAR OLD SON, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH POSSIBLE BIPOLAR DISORDER, ADHD AND ODD. HE HAS BEEN GOING TO A PSYCHOLOGIST SINCE HE WAS 3 YEARS OLD AND IS ON A MED NAMED ZYPREXA. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE TRIED PARENTING CLASSES AND NUMEROUS OTHER TACTICS WHICH DIDN'T WORK. AS HE GETS OLDER, EVERYTIME HE IS TOLD NO ABOUT SOMETHING HE GETS VERY VIOLENT WITH MY HUSBAND AND I. I WANT TO KNOW HOW I SHOULD DISCIPLINE A CHILD THAT GETS THAT ANGRY SO IT DOESN'T GET TO THAT POINT? DO I JUST LET HIM DO WHAT HE WANTS?

I advise that you read the book The Explosive Child by Dr. Ross Greene. You will see your child in the descriptions, and Dr. Greene offers sound guidance about how to parent such difficult children. You might also consider a re-evaluation of the medication plan.
