Bipolar Disorder is a type of mood disorder. It can be typified by a range of symptoms, partly related to the age of onset. One of the main characteristics of the condition is mood instability, often ranging from a depressed state to a hypomanic or manic state, which can involve some psychotic behavior in the extreme. Part of a treatment plan for bipolar disorder, which is biologically-based and involves the functioning of the brain's neurotransmitters, requires medication (in addition to therapy).

im a mother of an 11yr old boy he was treated for adhd and i've come to a conclusing that in order to totaly understand the mental disorder i had to go back and think about the actions of my son .I rethought the history of his father and myself and came to a conclusing that we have more going on then a adhd .he also has signs of bipolor and we are going threw the steps to retest him.if you are really concerned with the problem with your children keep a log and calander dates od certian behaviors that u see at home and with the teachers at school.ive found that most teachers will comply with the concerns of the parents.this is my personal oppion and will take any suggestions that you may have to offer.i feel that we need to slow down and really take a look at our kids andf what is bothering themthen diside who what and when to get them help.....thanks
