changes after a temp. seizure

by Jan to Anonymous, Sep 06, 2000 12:00AM
My 2 1/2 year old grandson had a tempture seizure when he as about 15 or 16 months old.  Ever since his sleep patterns have changed.  He takes longer naps and wakes up in a rotten mood (that is it takes him a long time to wake up if you have to wake him up).  Could this be anything to do with the seizure?  And what if any long term effects does a temp. seizure have?

Thanks

Dear Janel,

Yes, the changes in behavior surrounding sleep could have been influenced by the seizure - it's really not possible to know with certainty. Nor is it possible to anticipate what to expect in the future, except to say that children who experience a febrile seizure generally develop well and display no particular problems if in all respects other than the seizure they were/are doing well.
