children of divorce

I have two boys, ages four and six.  I quit my job in January to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, as my hectic lifestyle was taking its toll on all of us.  At the last of October, my husband surprised us by filing for divorce, no warning signs evident.  The shock has effected the boys in ways that I cannot explain - - it's awful.  I have tried every way that I know how; keeping a positive relationship with their father, making sure that they know it's not their fault, talking positively about the situation and their dad, etc.  As I am not working right now, I do not have the financial means to send them to a child  psychologist, which I think they need.  Do you know of any ways that I can help them?

First, be sure to check on the terms of the children's health insurance. There may be mental health coverage which can make some treatment available to them. Some schools, churches, community agencies, etc. offer group treatment for children whose parents are divorcing. Check around for possibilities along this line. Finally, there is a wealth of material available now in the forms of children's books and books for parents. Check with your local library about these types of resources.
