childrens drawings

my 6 yr old niece recently drew a picture of a house, flower, tree and her parents all of which looked normal, when i looked closer i saw another figure completely in yellow standing next to them when i asked her who it was she said it was her. From a distance you would not have seen her. Is there any meaning to that or is it usual for a child to go from colourful to one colour, also over her head was a large black bird like creature.

I would not suggest any particular meaning to the drawing. The important thing to observe is her overall development in the family, at school and among peers. If her development is sound in all those areas there is no reason to be concerned.
