cirb to bed troubles for an active, 2 yr old

cirb to bed troubles for an active, 2 yr old

My son is 26 motnhs old and we are transitioning him to a twin bed. He has had a big bed in his room for almost a year, and was sleeping in it fine for a while, then went back to his crib. I have no choice but to put him in the bed as he is now climbing out of the crib. It's been a week now and i'm spending close to two hours a day "firmly" putting him back to bed. We've tried everything and he still keeps getting up. He's roaming aournd the house in the middle of the night and has even jumped in the crib with his baby brother (10 months).  I go back to work in three weeks and cannot handle a two year old who won't nap anymore in a bed or a crib and who is up half the night. I have read and tried the same old tips on different websites and message boards " use the same routine, let him help, praise his efforts, keep putting him back in bed with a firm tone (he might as well be laughing in my face when I do this) get a baby gate to keep him in his room ( he can climb over it)and so on. He's been sleeping throught he night on his own in his own bed for over a year, he doesn't sleep with us and had no trouble adjusting to his brothers' arrival 10 months ago. There have been no other big changes either that could lead to this, I don't know what to do and i'm so frustrated ( I too need naps as i'm up with the baby at least 2x a night) i'm scared i'm going to lose it soon.  Please help!!

Are the boys in the same room?  If you are going in with the 10 month old it may be disturbing him where he can not get back to sleep.  I know the chore of keeping kids in bed--I posted a few weeks ago about my four yr old not sleeping in his bed at all--I stillhave not found a solution--for when he looks at me he is totaly terrified of sleeping in his room and my Hb and I don't know what to do either--If you find an answer please let me know, so I can try.

Thanks for the reply. The boys are in seperate rooms. The two yr old has always slept in his own room, has never tried to get in bed with us. The 10 month old also sleeps in his own room.  the two yr old has always been a very good, deep sleeper, noise never bothered him and still doesn't once he's asleep. He would always put himself back to sleep if he ever woke up through the night in the crib, but now if he wakes up, he roams around. My husband never hears him, so that leaves me up tending to two kids the better part of the night. I have no advice to offer you as i'm not there yet! My friend's son (4yrs)comes into their room and they take him back and lay down with him in his room until he falls asleep. I'm guessing you've tried that or it isn't an option where your son is scared. Maybe putting a mattress or bed on the floor in your room?  I've tried this with my son, but it didn't work for me. You're probably like me, you've tried everything and nothing is working. I'm waiting for a magic cure. Hopefully time will solve my dilemma, i'm just praying it won't take long as I can't handle not sleeping!!

They make new baby gates that are tall & difficult to climb over with alarms in case they are opened.....have you looked into different gates for his bedroom?

Wondering why he can't sleep in his own crib.  ours did that and the pediatrician suggested just leaving the crib gate lowered so he didn't get hurt climbing over it.
he may want to be a baby again as he see's his 10 mo old using the crib.  he won't take it to college w/ him.
