clothing issues

There is a boy in my sons class aged 5 and a half who displays the most curious behaviour: it is the middle of summer and yet he vehemently insists to wear his winter clothing - ie socks and sneakers, vest, longsleeved t-shirt and a pullover over all of this. Our summers are a an avarage of 35 degrees c!!!! Luckly we are moving into fall now, so the situation is not that exasperating. The mom is a friend of ours and has given up the fight with her child. He runs around in the blazing heat in full winter gear, sweat pouring off his little face. He becomes grumpy and confrontational, even agressive; when we all try to take his layers off, he runns away.
Is there any kind of developmental/ tactile problem, a complex of not wanting to expose skin or is it simply a control issue between him and the parents?
As soon as he is home, he then changes.....

He may have some sensory issues.  I think his mother is on the right track to let it go.  If he is comfortable then it is what he prefers.  It would be the same if he was overly sensative to tags and wanted them cut out.  She'd probably cut the tags.  I think you most definately should not be touching him and trying to remove his layers and that his  parents should work with him on it in private.  He probably feels ganged up on.  I'm sure you are trying to help but you are making it worse.  goodluck

I agree.  Some kids feel better "wrapped up" in layers,  and it has a calming affect on them.    I'm a little surprised adults (besides his parents) are trying to remove his clothing against his wishes.

My son likes to wear short sleeves adn then after summer time it's ahrd to get my son out of sandals and wearing socks again, goodness. I think it's sensory.  But if he's not bothered by it nad it doesn't hurt anyone else, then let it be.
