could recent divorce be a factor

my husband and i recently divorced. my daughter,three and a half years old has a good relationship with her dad. we live with my mother and her husband. my daughter  does not do what she is told and gets very mouthy with my mother and i.im not sure how we should  handle  this. do we ignore it? tell her its not appropriate and punnish her by sending her to her room?any ideas would be appreciated. also, my daughter is an only child.

Absolutley do not ignore this. Regardless of any stress occasioned by the divorce, your daughter is still bound to follow directions from adults who have jurisdiction over her. Time out for failure to follow directions is a sensible intervention. Have her sit in an adult-size chair for five minutes, and use a timer to track the time. Start the timer only when she is seated quietly in the chair.
