eating feces

My son is 8 yrs old and for the last few years I have noticed brown around his mouth after he goes to the bathroom.  He is not autisitic nor does he have any other identifiable disorder other than being diagnosed with Verbal Appraxia at age 21/2.  This is a mild speech disorder but they did say children who have this have a tendency to stuff their mouth.  Vincent never really had any big issue with that except for sometimes he puts too much food in his mouth  I think he is putting very small amounts of his feces in his mouth while going to the bathroom.  Is this normal?  How do I get him to stop?  Do I punish him for this?  I have tried to get him to stop many times but he keeps on doing it! please help.

I really have no idea. I would contact your pediatrician and ask them. I would not punish, it could make it worse.
