exteme end of terrible twos

by mattaci, Oct 08, 2007 07:30PM
I have 27 month old girl.  She has been getting progressively worse over time in behavior.  People use to say it was terrible twos, now people say it is extreme.  She says a few syllables for words but says no words completely.  She has a tantrum at least 2/3 of the time she is awake.  She screams constantly.  She has been going to mothers day out and has been getting progressively worse to the point of screaming all day till she naps, getting up and screaming till we pick her up.  She actually started hitting and biting the teachers today.  The only time she is happy is playing outside or playing in the bath or watching a few programs.  I am wondering, is this normal for a two year old?  Could her delayed speech be part of the problem?  Could she have emotional problems?

Anything could be the problem.

Are you sure you're right,  2/3 of the time she's awake she's screaming?  Honestly,  I don't see how her throat would hold up to screaming 8 hours a day.    I literally think she would be totally hoarse.

First,  I think you need to keep a very accurate log of how much of the day she spends screaming.  I don't know what your mothers day out program is like,  but I don't think a child who did what you are describing would be able to come back after two sessions of that.  Screaming constantly until nap time,  then screaming constantly until pick up.  And now kicking and biting the teacher.  I'm not picturing a preschool that would have her back one more time.

If you're asking if this is normal,  it isn't - and you need to have her assessed very soon.

Hi,

I have a son who is 2yr and 3months. His father works in the UK and we live in SA. He's for 6 months but I don't know if we would be getting together again. Reason I'm telling you this is 'cos most people say it's cos he's father has left, but he has screamed and moaned before his father left. I also think my child is extreme, I have never *** across a child with this behaviour. He doesn't talk to me, he moans. He can speak somewhat, but what is odd that whenever he's with other people, they can't stop talking about wot a wonderful, well behaved child it is!!!!! Then I realized it's ob 'cos I've taught him it's right to moan and scream yet, may I inform you, that I am not shy to give a hiding or do time out.

I really disciplne him but he only behaves good when I'm not around!!!!!

I think I am at the verge of either hurting him or myself......SOS
