family of severely handicapped child

I have come across a lot of literature for families of children who have some degree of developmental potential, but not much info for families of children that are total care and have no developmental potential.  Usually the advice is to seek respite care, but I'm looking for more. ( The father in this case resents outside interference but the mother is still in need of advice.)

I am a special education preschool teacher and I have found that there are many helpful support groups that parents speak highly of.  Contact your local SERC (special education resourse center) and explain exactly what you are seeking.  It it their job to connect you with the resourses that your family needs (even if it is different than your wife's).  I wish you the best.

Dear tbear,

I am not familiar with the literature that you seek, but maybe one of our readers will help out. Are you affiliated with support groups for children with severe disabilities? Such groups might be a source of information.
