feces in the garbage can

I am very confused. I have 7 year old male/female twins. I thought they were pretty well-adjusted and happy kids. Two weeks ago I found feces in their garbage can. I found out that my daughter did it. I punished her and after awhile she said that she did it because she wanted to continue watching television. Today I found some in a gaarbage bag. she isn't playing with it or smearing it anywhere but I don't think this is normal. could this be a sign of sexual abuse or a cry for help?

Probably not, but ask her about it. Let her know this is not permitted and that she's expected to use the bathroom. Then follow along and see if there's any repetition. Be sure to inquire when this has occurred because it could be important. For example, it might occur at night when she wakes up and is frightened to leave her room.
