focusing

I have an 11 year old boy whos IQ is 122 he has alwasy been in gifted classes in school and has never had to study. My problem is that the simplest things he just cant seem to do it like he will do his homework but not trun it in and he is not bothered that he gets an F  he is in middle school now and out of 6 papers he has 4 f's. I have spoken to him about it but he says it is too hard I know tho that he is playing me cause his test are all a's.A little bit of info about him is that he is the cool kid in school and when he gets home he plays outside (skate boarding, bikeing, roller blading, basketball ect... he is not a gamer) I am fustrated. I do still have to tell him to do the simplest task like brush his teeth take a shower ect.... why is it so hard for him to trun in his work? I have tried grounding him it does not work. I have read a little about him being an under achever not sure if he really fits it. Is there anything I can do at home to help him focus? Is this just who he is going to be?  need help please!

Why not try rewarding him like if he turns in his homework, and studies for tests (& does well) you'll get him new _________ every month or two. it worked for my younger sister when my husband & i were going thru that. She had f's and d's.  Now she has a's & b's.

I believe that Kaymom1 has a good suggestion - he's old enough to deal with the consequences to his actions.  And I suspect your son is correct when he says that the "school work is too hard" because he never learned how to study and apply himself in school.  He will need to do this in order to prepare himself for secondary school (and the best way is as Kaymom stated).  One more point - giftedness IQ scale begins at 140 so although your son is intelligent, he is not gifted.  Perhaps your expectations are a bit too high.  Wishing the best for your son ...
