friends at seven

by shell1026, May 18, 2008 06:02PM
my son has a couple of friends that he plays with at home but when he is at school they don't play with him and don't seem to be his friend.  I was just wondering how kids play and what kind of level do friendships mean to them at the age of seven.

By the age of seven, most children can identify peers with whom they have a friendship. But the context is important. That is, it is not unusual for children to have friends at school with whom they might have a 'stronger' bond than they have with children they might know from a different context (e.g., neighborhood, YMCA, church). Encourage your son to gravitate at school to the people he identifies as friends there.
