hand, foot, and mouth disease

My niece has hand, foot, and mouth disease we are going over there to visit with all the family because my bf parents are going to be there and they want to see all the kids how do I keep this away from my children I have a 4 yr old and a 4month old is there any info about this that would help my children not getting it or should I just stay clear away from them and say I can go. I don’t want to be stuck up and not go being there all going to be there but I don’t want my kids to get it. please help me.

my mom worked in a preschool for many years and has told me before to watch out for it because like teko said, it is highly contageous and hard to get rid of. i would keep the kids home.

his mom doesnt understand she was like well we all wash hands they wont get it.. crazy pple... they are selfish even when we went there with the kids to there house we asked for no smokeing and they flipped out over it so tell me what you think.. why are mother in law so crazy.

I fully agree, stay home if you manage to put your foot down. My son did not catch too many colds and no ear infections in preschool but that one he got. It spread like an epidemic at his daycare. He had a sore mouth for a week and could barely eat anything because of it. That`s the last thing you need with a 4-month old.
There are times we have to protect our kids from unnecessary exposures like that virus, and smoking is definitely another one to be avoided. As mothers we sometimes come across as over-sensitive but in the long run - who cares. We care. My best friend used to have herpes blisters on her lips for most part of the year and gave it to her toddler. The poor little guy was covered in blisters for months it seemed. She claimed it was not contagious but was something that comes from inside out - yes, sure...once the infection is there. In her culture, parents kiss babies on the mouth. Anyway, there is lots of misinformation and ignorance out there it is better to trust yourself with some decisions.
