help with 4year old toileting problems

by ezza84, Nov 04, 2009 07:46PM
my daughter is now 4 and a half years old and has suffered with constipation since 6 months old, my issue is that she knows how to use the toilet but refuses to pass her bowels on the toilet instead she will go in her pants , she was put onto movicol 8 months ago and it has worked wonders for her, but continues to poo in her pants . could this possibly be behavoural, she has such a crazy routine , one week with me. one week with fateher in  that time she is in child care for 40hrs. is it possible that she is too confused with all the different routines that she is choosing to just not use the toilet or something more serious.

It is very likely that this routine is contributing to the problem. Such a custody arrangement is damaging to a child of this age. You and her father should really question what you are doing. A child this young needs a primary residence (i.e., a home where she can wake up and go to sleep in the same bed every school day). Often such 50/50 custody plans are designed as compromises for the parents and they do not meet the emotional and developmental needs of young children.
