homicidal ideation in a child

homicidal ideation in a child

My daughter started writing me emails 2 months ago, at first they started with her thoughts of bizzare sexual feelings such as sex with a family member or even Jesus.   Then it esculated into my child stating she wanting to kill me with a knife, it got so bad she would throw dirty knives back into the silverware drawer because she thoughts the knives would tempt her more into killing me, she states she can not control the thoughts and is frightened not for herself but for me.  What is wrong with my child?  Has anyone had an experience with their child such as this? Need help! Tina

She needs a psychiatric assessment,  tina.  If she were 4 years old and afraid she might stab someone,  that's one thing.

She needs a complete psych eval.

Best wishes.

My daughter is currently in a childrens mental facility, and they are stumped for answers. Insurance runs out in 2 days and the cost of this facility is $15,000 a day.  I will have to bring her home, can not afford this facility.  I was just hoping someone out there had some input into this situation or if anyone has had a similiar situation?  I thank you RockRose for your comment.

Do you have any family members who might be willing to help you out by taking her for a while until you and her go for counseling? Or can someone you know help you with respite care? What does she say when you talk to her about this situation? Does she say why she wants to kill you? I agree with RockRose about the psychiatric assessment. When she comes home, maybe she can even speak to a counselor at school or something. Does she have some sort of mental problems/disabilities? Is she on any medications for her problems? I believe that she needs to have someone she can trust completely to go to when she needs to talk about things. Maybe this can be a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend. Something needs to happen really quick. Talk to anyone you trust. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Good luck. Let us know how things go.

tina,  are they focusing on possible OCD and have they tried medications used to treat OCD?  It's good that she's already in a facility,  but sad that she'll have to leave soon with no answers.

There doesn't seem to be any real indication that she is violent,  is there?  It doesn't sound like she's behaved in a violent way ever,  but rather,  she has a very disturbing (and disturbing to her,  which is actually a good thing,  that she is distressed by these awful thoughts).

They obviously know more just strangers posting to you on the internet,  but it sounds like OCD treatment is a good path to explore for her.

Best wishes.  This must be very hard.

Hi Rose, they are looking into possible OCD because of her fathers history of OCD.  Caroline isn't a violent child, in fact so much the opposite, she is overly sensitive at times, caring and well behaved.  It's almost as if she were posessed by something evil?  These thought came 2 months ago, almost so suddenly and quickly turned into disturbing thoughts.  She does not act disturbed in any way.  Only what she states in emails and her thoughts are disturbing.  Thanks again Rose, for the advice, if you stumble upon anything else please let me know.  Tina
