infants behaviour

My son was 2 in July.  I am having big problems with his behaviour. Ever since he has been on the move he will not sit at peace at all!  My health visitor definently thinks that he is over active for his age.  I am worrying incases he has an underlying problem.  His behaviour is also terrible.  He throws, screams, bites, pulls your hair,  climbs and no matter how many times I tell him off or send him to his play pen or to the naughty corner, the behaviour will just start all over again.  Regardless to all that he is  intellegent for his age and shows this through some of his behaviours and when he trys to talk to you. I do know that when i am telling him off that he undesrtands what i am saying.  At the moment I cant get him  to stay in bed.  When he was still in his cot bed he would go down to bed at 7 without a dummy.  Now that the sides are off he is continuing to run in and out of the room for at least 2 hours and i know the eaisest way would be to put the sides back on as I have done this before.  I want him to get used to sleeping in a bed. I am really at the end of my tether please do you have any suggestions of what to do.

His behavior is showing you that he is not ready for the new sleeping arrangement. There's no rush - 'listen' to his behavior. Re: managing the difficult behavior, two-year-olds are notorious for their level of impulsivity and strong-headedness. You need to manage it systematically. Try the method suggested by Lynn Clark in his book SOS Help for Parents - you'll be glad you did.
