is gay a choice

We have had four gay men in our family, three have passed, I now see lesbian traits in a 15 year old granddaughter is gay a choice or a Gene? How do I find out this information.

The jury's still out on that one. They have yet to prove it's genetic. I personally believe it's a choice but everyone has different beliefs.

I believe the year was 1991 that studies proved that the "gay/lesbian gene" is one of the inherited traits from the mother's X gene.  

As for the first poster - simply google phrases as "sexual orientation" or "genetics and homosexuality" or similar words/phrases to find information on the internet.  Or, talk to your family doctor.

I don't think we had the ability in 1991 to prove much if anything about someones genes.  I googled "gay/lesbian gene" and outside of the "twin study" in 2006, didn't find much.  If you can find any source, I would be interested in reading it.

It is basically universally accepted in the scientific community that homosexuality is a natural part of the human behavioral spectrum, and that it is NOT CHOSEN. One may choose whether or not to lead a lifestyle true to his nature, but this is not the same as choosing his nature.
Twin studies point to a very strong genetic influence (though, by no means proven, as stated above). Twins separated at birth (thus, with different environments in their respective upbringings) still have a high probability of one being gay if the other is so. Most agree that it is probably a combination of genetics and environmental factors (pre- and post-natal).
The question is, why does it matter to you if it's genetic or not? It is who they are, and they did not choose it. I can vouch as a gay man that being discriminated against and called names in school is not a choice anyone would make.
