the doctor is sending her on friday for a eeg and a ph probe on the 2nd of next month
My son was diagnosed with a "reflux apnea" at age of 5 months old. Basically they explained it like a really bad case of heartburn in adults. However, infants lack the concience control of their airway, so what was happening is that everytime my son spit up he would close his airway to keep it from comming up and out, the problem was that since he did not control or "know" that he was closing his airways he couldn't open them back up once the episode was over. My son would turn blue and pass out (SCARY). I don't know if they would call that a seizure or not, nor can I say all babies may react the same way mine did. Our doctor performed a very simple test called a PH probe, it is a small tube with a test end that measures the PH level of the stomach acid. It is inserted through the nostril and is placed about mid esophagus - when the baby spits up which in Reflux they will all do, it measures the acidity levels, the lower the PH the stronger it is. As a result we had to have our son on a "heart lung monitor" and a simple medication of Zantac until he was a year old, at which time he grew out of it. I would definately seek a second opinion with a pediatric gastroenterologist.
Did the doctor do an EEG? If not, he has no way of knowing it's not a seizure unless she did this in the office. Has your child's diet changed? Many children start cereal at 4 months. If so, you may want to get off of it until you get into another doctor to get that second opinion.
Good luck and God Bless.
My son had reflux, this doesn't not even come close to sounding the same. My son would projectile vomit, but no seizure like symtoms. He went on meds & is fine now. I would get a second opinion. I wish you all the best.
