is there really a mood stablizer for children available?

my son is 10 and has adhd odd, ptsd, and a blood disorder and now trich (hair puller).  His outbursts have gotten the best of me sometimes and are easier at others.  i have talked with several physicans about the options of medications.  So far when i even mention the fact of a mood stablizer, it is almost as if i am shunned from that idea.  I am suppose to see the physican again today.  Is there really such a thing for children these days?  what about behavior therapy???  I have went through similar experiences about a year and half ago where i was put on medicine to level me out.  Is it then hereditary?

There are mood stabilizers that children take.

some studies have shown that some behaviors are hereditary. Normally one parent displays ADD which is normally undiagnosed.

Most Dr's will look at you funny when you do talk about medication. Because "THEY are the DOCTORS" and think us parents have no clue about anything.

One thing though I must say is DR's need to pay attention to medications in which parents take and how the parent reacts to the medication. Children are the makeup of their parents are they not? so certain medications that effect you might also effect your child. So if you had a good response with your medication and notice the same behavior its not far off for you to make the connections because you are the parent and see and understand what the child is feeling.

Before you talk medications allow the Dr's to have the full background on your history , the fathers history and the childs history. Let them go through the trial and error of meds. but if the meds are not working you need to be strong in voicing it. It will give you more ground to be able to speak about the meds with the dr. If the Dr gives you the run around about waiting another 2 months to see how to meds are working then I suggest you make it clear what you see in your childs behavior. and make sure to make note yourself. Because medications all have different families. Some med families some children can just not tolerate like antidepressants. some only work well with a stimulant. etc...
